History
The core of the villa dates back to 1578 by the hands of cardinal Alessandro Rufini, owner of Villa Rufina (a.k.a. Villa Falconieri).
The name "Rufinella” was given to distinguish it from the most ancient villa.
After Cardinal's death villa Tuscolana belonged the Reverend Apostolic Chamber, that in 1580 made it over to cardinal Guido Ferreri, grandson of Carlo Borromeo and relative of Pio IV.
Many owners followed over the years: cardinal Francesco Sforza, Mario I Sforza, Count of Santa Fiora, Vincenzo de 'Nobili, etc.
From 1639 the villa belonged, for nearly a century, to the Sacchetti family.
Some ancient painting of the villa witnessed the appearance of the seventeenth-century villa, a simple three-floor building with the main facade to Rome, like almost every Tusculum villa.
A big Italian-style garden was all around. In 1740, Sacchetti family gave the Villa to the Order of Jesuits. They totally changed the look of the building.
